Four Day Itinerary
Day One: Kalgoorlie Town and History
Take a stroll along Hannan Street whilst admiring the magnificent historical architecture.
Located on the Corner of Hannan and Wilson Street is the Kalgoorlie Town Hall. This impressive 1908 Edwardian style building showcases an extensive collection of art and memorabilia. Daily Tours available.
Drop in to the Western Australia Museum at the top of Hannan Street which features the social and cultural lifestyle of the Eastern Goldfields. Enter the gold vault and admire the spectacular collection of gold nuggets and jewellery. Entry by Gold Coin donation
Walk to the top of Mt Charlotte Reservoir for great views of the city. Informative panels provide a history lesson about the important C.Y. O’Connor water pipeline that carries water from the Mundaring Weir near Perth along 560 kilometres of pipeline to Mt Charlotte in Kalgoorlie.
Have lunch in one of the many cafes situated in Hannan Street or visit Australian Prospectors and Miners Hall of Fame. Sitting on 5 hectares, the heritage precinct depicts the history of prospecting and mining in Australia with galleries inside showcasing the past, present and future of the mining industry. Explore one of Kalgoorlie’s first underground mines or alternatively try striking gold by panning. Explore the Heritage precinct – including Paddy Hannan’s tent. Allow at least half a day to enjoy this complex.
Take a stroll or drive down Kalgoorlie’s notorious red light district street. Don’t miss the Bordello tours where you hear about the colourful history of Hay Street. Must be 18 plus to take part in the tour.
Tonight treat your taste buds to a smorgasbord of choices that are on offer – you won’t be disappointed.
Day Two: Super Pit and Historic Burt Street Boulder
Enjoy a flight with Heliwest and see the city as well as view the world famous KCGM Super Pit. Another option to view this impressive goldmine is to visit the KCGM Super Pit open cut lookout (Free entry) where you can watch giant haulpaks operate.
Visit the Royal Flying Doctors Service Base. The guided tour provides an insight into the life of a flying doctor, how it operates in Western Australia and its importance to the Western Australian outback. The Kalgoorlie base can also (subject to a plane being in hanger) provide an insight into the conditions the doctors, nurses and pilots work in.
The Loop line Museum takes you through a journey of the past and afterwards enjoy lunch in the Railway reserve or as an alternative take a short stroll which will find you at the historic Metropole Hotel where there is a mine shaft in the front bar
The Little Boulder Sweet Shop is a must for those big and young kids as you wander through the abundance of sweets and chocolates from years gone by.
Boulder Town Hallis a beautifully historic hall featuring pressed tin ceilings, wrought iron balustrades and the Phillip Goatcher stage curtain. The hall has hosted such celebrities as Dame Nellie Melba and Eileen Joyce. The curtain is on display Tuesday and Thursdays.
Day Three: Menzies – Lake Ballard & Northern Goldfields
Drive from Kalgoorlie to Menzies allowing at least two hours for the 132km trip on sealed highway. Along the way past remnants of the township of Goongarrie. Three stone railway settlers’ cottages are all that remain of a township which once boasted a post office and telegraph office, two hotels and several shops whilst providing a stop-over for the daily coach from Coolgardie to Menzies.
The Menzies Town Hall is the town’s famous landmark, due to the fact it was clock less for 100 years after the ship carrying the clock from England report edly sank off Rottnest in 1905. The clock was eventually installed in 2000 in time for the New Year celebrations.
The railway station built in 1898 is a brick federation building and the last railway station remaining on the Northern Goldfields railway. Other Historic buildings include the newly commissioned Menzies Visitor Centre situated inside the former Lady Shenton Hotel. The Lady Shenton Hotel operated from 1902 to 1922 and also incorporates Aboriginal Art Gallery and historic information.
From Menzies there is a 51Km drive to the world famous Inside Australia Art Project-Lake Ballard. Commissioned by the 2003 Perth International Arts Festival and created by world renowned British sculptor Antony Gormley. The salt lake is home to 51 figures which are all derived from laser scans of residents of Menzies. A Great photo opportunity.
Menzies Historic Pioneer cemetery is a place where you can read a number of graves of pioneers and children headstones who became victims to the tragic typhoid epidemic of 1895-1905. There is a register of names and details of some the people who are buried is also provided
Fuel, food and supplies can be obtained from the Caltex Roadhouse or alternatively at the Menzies Hotel. Contact Menzies Visitor Centre for further information. The drive back from Menzies to Kalgoorlie could also include a stop at the Broad Arrow Tavern. Not just only famous for its art work, but also for its Broady Burger-you won’t be disappointed.
Day Four: Kalgoorlie Surrounds
Visit the Goldfields Arts Centre and view the latest Exhibition of Local art. The Inner City walk trail explores an impressive array of heritage buildings including Kalgoorlie and Boulder Town Halls, St Mary’s Church and Government buildings, whilst also providing an excellent photo opportunity. Brochures are available from the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre for a minimal fee.
The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club Museum is located in the western end of the ‘Old Tote’ building at the race course. Its walls are lined with photography of champions and other such items as the ‘colours’ Damien Oliver on his ride on Doriemus in the 1995 Melbourne Cup and a replica of the 1905 Melbourne Cup won by former Perth and Kalgoorlie winner Blue Spec.
For those with a passion for the great outdoors, Karlkurla Bushland Park (wildflowers in season) offers 4kms of gravel walk trails with interpretive flora and fauna signage. For those who just wish to relax and unwind visit Hammond Park with its duck pond, aviaries and a sanctuary for Kangaroos and emus. See the miniature Bavarian Castle with an estimated 40,000 gemstones
History buffs will enjoy the Kalgoorlie Cemetery Heritage Trail. Purchase your Walk Trail book from the WA Goldfields Museum before beginning. Each of the Gravesites has a marker for easier identification and will take around two hours to complete. The 32 gravesites featured on this walk is just a small sample of the untold stories of early exploration, gold finds, mining accidents and heroic rescues.
OR Enjoy the day at the Mining Hall of Fame
This can be a half or full day. A centenary of projects, this multi award winning venue have interactive exhibits from prospecting and exploration to mining, processing and the finished product. Also a café and gift shop to peruse.

Boulder Market Day
Held every third Sunday in every month. Burt Street comes alive with various stalls of local crafts. Free tours into the Super Pit are also often on offer.
Kalgoorlie Market Day
Held on the first Sunday of every month at St Barbara's Square Hannan Street.

Goldfields Oasis
The Goldfields Oasis is one of Western Australia's premier recreation centres and a focal point for sporting, recreation and leisure pursuits of our growing community and visitors to the city.
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder held its grand opening of the Goldfields Oasis in March of 1999 and has progressed to add to its already outstanding facilities by adding a versatile outdoor water park including the worlds most exciting new water sport the Flowrider.
Our facilities include a fully equipped health club with quality equipment, a group fitness studio hosting over 30 group fitness classes a week, aquatic facilities including an Olympic size lap pool, leisure pool, toddlers pool, two spas and a sauna. The Oasis also has the outdoor adventure water park with BBQ facilities and playground. The indoor sports stadium has three fully sprung courts suitable for basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton and soccer. In addition, the centre offers a wellness area, café, crèche, outdoor courts, function room hire and much more.
