Overview

Discovery Holiday Parks – Lake Maraboon (formerly Lake Maraboon Holiday Park) in Queensland’s Central Highlands is the perfect base to explore this historic region.  Located midway between Rockhampton and Longreach and under 7 hours from Townsville, this park is close to Emerald, with the fascinating Sapphire Gemfields and the nearby coal-mining town of Blackwater under an hour away. 

Famous for its stocks of Red Claw Crayfish, Lake Maraboon offers excellent fishing, swimming and water-skiing.  Established in 1879, the nearby town of Emerald is home to the Emerald Botanic Gardens.  Set on the banks of the Nogoa River, these relaxing gardens cover 42 hectares showcasing many of the regions native plant species.   Offering free entry, the Emerald Historic Railway Station, Emerald Pioneer Cottage Complex and the Emerald Centenary of Federation Mosaic Pathway are ideal attractions for the whole family. 

Just under an hour away are the regions famous Sapphire Gemfields.  Mined since the 1800’s, visitors can now join a half or full day guided tour, which includes the opportunity to fossick for sapphires.  Australia’s largest walk-in mine is located just outside Rubyvale, where visitors can take a 30 minute tour of the Miners Heritage Walk-In Mine. 

The region is home to several national parks, including Blackdown Tableland National Park, Minerva Hills National Park and the stunning Carnarvon Gorge National Park.

Discovery Holiday Parks – Lake Maraboon offers accommodation ranging from powered or unpowered camp or caravan sites to a selection of cabins.  Featuring lake views, our 3 Star Standard cabins sleep up to 4 people while our 4 Star Deluxe Cabins sleep up to 6 people).  Offering ideal self-contained accommodation, these cabins come with all linen supplied and feature colour TV, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, crockery, kitchen utensils, cutlery and cookware.

Featuring a swimming pool, fully serviced Conference Centre and licensed restaurant, Discovery Holiday Parks – Lake Maraboon is also an ideal location for corporate events and functions.
