What's on in February

EDEN FISHING REPORT FEBRUARY

The fishing in Eden is hotting up as the warm currents push their way along the coast.
Kingfish are on the chew at Green Cape and Pulpit rock with most boats returning with their daily bag limits.
Live baiting has been the most successful method to date with most fish in the 6-8kg range with a few monumental bust-offs from the larger models.
Jigs and large soft plastics are worth a try when the fish are fired up.
For those who prefer to bottom bounce there are good Flathead and Snapper around Salt Water creek and Disaster Bay.
Striped Tuna up to 4kg and Bonito are moving between North head and Green Cape with large schools busting up on the surface.
Try your luck trolling 4 inch Christmas trees or 4 inch pushers with standout colours at the moment being Black and Purple or Black and Red. You can also entice them on Chrome slugs for the avid spin fan.
Marlin are continuing to strike lures at the 90-100 metre mark with a troll from the Cape to Mowarry producing Striped Marlin to the 100kg mark.
Reports in the last few days of Blue-fin Tuna busting the surface out wide for those that venture that far.

FISHING EDEN

A well-known fishing port on the south coast of NSW with no dangerous bar crossing.

Game Fishing in Eden
Eden is an excellent spot for game fishing from December to May. Hot currents from the north swirl down, quite often getting caught in behind Greencape, which pushes the warm water in very close to shore. Eden is a well renowned Tuna port having based the Heinz Cannery for years. Land based game fishing is also well known down here, fishing from the Pulpit and City Rocks. Likely catches are Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna and Sharks.

Reef Fishing in Eden
Reef fishing in Eden is excellent, as there are so many places to fish with great expanses all the Fishingway down to Greencape and Disaster Bay. There is nearly always good refuge to fish in any prevailing winds. With no dangerous bar crossing to worry about and good catches of Snapper, Morwong, Leather Jacket, Nannygai, Flathead and Gummy Sharks.

Wide Reef Fishing in Eden
Wide Reef Fishing Eden has excellent deep reefs from 50-250 fathoms for the keen dropliner chasing fish from Morwong & Leather Jacket to Trevally, Ling & Hapuka.

Sports Fishing in Eden
Sports Fishing There are only two spots on the far south coast that offer Kingfish in good numbers and they are Montague Island and Mowarry Point from December to July. These prestigious, hard fighting monsters can be found up to 20kg, which test out the angler and the tackle to the limit.

CANDELO MARKET

The largest market on the Sapphire Coast.

Candelo markets commenced some 24 years ago and have been held continuously since then on the first Sunday of each month.

Next Market: Sunday 4th March 2012

MOUNT IMLAY

The summit of Mount Imlay is of particular scientific interest because of it's largely undisturbed nature, the presence of several threatened plant species and its biogeographical similarity to Tasmanian peaks. Rising to a height of 886 metres, the impressive peak of Mount Imlay dominates this heavily forested national park which covers an area of 3,808 ha.

Access to the Mt. Imlay summit track is through the East Boyd State Forest via the Burawang Forest Rd. which leaves the Princes Hwy 19km south of Eden.

The Park has no visitor facilities. A picnic area is located at the end of the Burrawang Forest Rd. within the state forest near the park boundary.

The Mt. Imlay summit track commences at the end of the Burrawang Forest Rd. The track is 3km long and takes approximately 3 hours return to complete. Silver markers along the way indicate the location of the track and care must be taken to keep these in sight at all times.

The last 500m section of the route follows a rocky razor-back ridge to the trig station. Walkers should carry water with them and wear good walking shoes.

A number of threatened or biogeographically significant plant species occur in the park including Eucalyptus imlayensis; a rare species of eucalypt, endemic to Mount Imlay and classified as endangered.

The park is rich in animal life, but many species are rarely seen due to their nocturnal nature. Bird life in the park includes lyrebirds, tree creepers and currawongs with wedge tailed eagles occasionally seen overhead.

Rainforest pockets occur in the sheltered gullies within the park. Towards the summit of Mt. Imlay the vegetation is stunted due to the area's shallow soils and exposure to the weather.
